People said the first watch dogs story and game were bland and unoriginal(which I disagree with) but but bloodline has such a better story then the campaign t bone is just a better character then Aiden is he’s funny a badass and extremely likable his sorry about redemption for all he people he killed because of the blackout he caused his relationship with Tobias and default are amazing in short bad blood has the best story and writing the franchise has ever seen

Hunt Stevenson (Michael Keaton) travels to Japan in the hopes of attracting the Assan Car Company to his Pennsylvania hometown where the last factory had shut down. After Assan acquires the factory and sends their management team, there is a non-stop culture clash between management and their American employees. It’s a comedy, I swear.
I remembered this film from the 80’s and considering it’s directed by Ron Howard and stars Michael Keaton, I was surprised how hard it was to find a physical copy a few years back. Howard made the film between Cocoon (1985) and Willow (1988), so his career was definitely on the upswing. I finally broke down and bought a digital copy.
I made it about a third of the way through and had to laugh - not because of Keaton’s classic quick-wit and sharp tongue - rather, because it was wildly obvious why this movie was getting buried. Oh my, this one didn’t age well - it gets downright ugly. George Wendt, best known as the laid back bar fly Norm from Cheers plays a xenophobic blowhard. He’s a poor sport on the baseball diamond and harasses a Japanese executive’s wife at a grocery store. Not his finest role. The tensions between East and West are largely stereotype reliant and meant to be (mostly) funny but they run pretty raw now - not because we’re doing such a great job of inclusiveness in America in 2021. No, more because the last 4 or 5 years have been an ever expanding chasm between civil society and ugly “rugged individualist” politics.
The film was trying to capture a hard truth of the time - many American towns we struggling as manufacturing jobs were being lost - whether by companies moving operations out of country or just lost to the competition, honestly, it made little differences to the families affected. My hometown once boasted as having the largest canneries on the planet but those jobs went the way of the dodo and Modesto’s prosperity along with it. There’s little pride in becoming a bedroom community and service sector jobs are poor replacements for union wages. Michael Keaton, during a low point in the movie, gives a stirring “you better wake up” speech when the Japanese management / American worker hybrid experiment has failed:
The truth? You don’t want the truth. You want to hear that Americans do things better than anybody else. They are kicking our butts, and that ain’t luck - that’s your truth. There’s the truth… Great old American do-or-die spirit. Yeah it’s alive, but they got it! Well, I’ll tell you something, we better get it back, we better get it back damn fast. Instead we’re strutting around telling ourselves how great we are, patting each other on the back.
When the going gets tough, Americans have gone to the movies (well, since there has been movies). Stirring comedies with working class heroes can go a long way to sugar-coat hard truths like these. I think the lockdowns and monoculture movies made the pandemic worse, or at least harder. Anyway around it, the story ends here when the Americans finally figure out they need to get to work and quit squabbling and the Japanese learn there’s joy in working to live, not living to work. It’s not an out-in-out bad movie but it’s not likely going to make anyone’s “best of” list either. I see it has been reissued on DVD… I’m honestly ok not repurchasing this one. Yeah, I’m ok with that decision. Movie on.
Side note: I’m sure you all know that many, many Disney films have Hidden Mickeys in them… well, with any Ron Howard production, I like to find the Hidden Howards - wherever Ron goes, his family isn’t far behind. Gung Ho features not only his brother (Clint) and father (Rance) but his mother (Jean Speegle Howard) too.
Side side note: I had to let out a small groan when I opened Wikipedia and the first paragraph included:
The story portrayed the takeover of an American car plant by a Japanese corporation (although the title is an Americanized Chinese expression, for "work" and "together").
What - Gung Ho is Chinese? What the cheese and crackers is going on here and for the love of Mike (presumably Mikes everywhere?) did we slap a Chinese phrase on a movie that feature the Japanese? Weeeeell, kind-a-sort-of… it’s confusing. The Chinese Industrial Cooperatives (known in China as Gōngyè Hézuòshè) are organizations whose origins go back to the 1930’s and whose goal was to promote industrial and economic growth in China. ((Blink, blink)) Seems the United States Marines, by way of a New Zealander who was involved with the Chinese Industrial Cooperatives, picked up the similar sounding (to ears accustomed to English at any rate) term gōnghé which means “to work together”. So, the erroneous term for an organization that worked well in tandem enters the American lexicon where it becomes Gung Ho - a fully American term, despite it’s very confused Chinese origin. ((Shrug, cross-cultural Catachresis - I’m sure it happens all the time)) So, it’s really an American phrase on an American movie. Works for me.

2021.09.16 23:11 tehdeej Does anybody have any recommendations for a company providing interview coaching? I get tons of interviews and sometimes make it to the second interview, but no offers. I think I'm having trouble linking my previous career in business development to IO-related work in which I'm still a bit new.

In all my interviews when asked behavioral questions I fall back to my previous career successes and challenges because I have a lot more experience with it. It was a lot of key account management, sales , and marketing.
I tried BetterUp but they don't specialize in interviewing and career stuff other than helping you define your new desired career and how to achieve it. It's life coach kind of stuff which is not what I need.
It would be great to get interview coaching from an IO, but I don't think that will be happening as they are in different roles if they are at these companies. I'm looking at talent management, training and development, and organizational learning. INternational stuff is what I'm really interested in so I've applied to some global talent management roles, but those generally go to more experienced folk
I'm seeing a lot of people here frustrated finding work in their early career lately. Maybe this can help them as well? If anybody can recommend a good company for this I appreciate it.

2021.09.16 23:11 justreddit247 What should I look for in buying used?

I see a pretty decent 2015 manual with 105k miles for 9k, the dealer is offering a 3 month warranty as well. I've never driven a manual car, but I'm sure it cant be too difficult, compared to motorcycle. I saw some engine issues for this year. it's got a new catalytic converter.
how many miles could/should I expect to get out of it?

2021.09.16 23:11 rubenhak Need Help. How to design proper processing pipeline (with rabbitmq)?

Hi, I need help with designing a processing pipeline for a data intensive SaaS. Here are the requirements:

  1. There are many users.
  2. Each user continuously pushes some messages to the backend.
  3. For each user no two messages should be processed at the same time.
  4. For each user messages should be processed in order it is received.
  5. Need to be able to scale up the overall processing throughput as long as it does not contradict #3 and #4.
  6. Optional. Ability to delay message processing for some time (lets say 5 minutes).
Biggest challenge I have is to achieve requirement #3 and #4. Currently messages are independent and as long as there are available workers they pull a message from the queue and sometimes there is a case when multiple messages for same user are processed concurrently. This causes all sort of other issues (which I don't want to get into right now).
My stack includes RabbitMQ and Redis. If its possible to achieve this with this stack it would be awesome. Otherwise please recommend an alternative.
Thank you!
